About Ronda L. Sewald

Ronda Sewald Portrait

I thrive on the challenge of processing complicated multi-format collections and providing access to end users. As of March 2025, I have been applying my 25 years of experience in archival and special collections to the cataloging and description of distinctive material in the the Indiana University Libraries’ many collections. I am excite for this new opportunity to connect students and researchers with IU’s many treasures!

In addition to cataloging and metadata, my professional archival experience has included arranging and describing a wide array of material, designing and managing digitization and quality control workflows, supervising student hourly employees and interns, and providing instruction to students and researchers in the use of primary sources. I also have experience with promoting archival collection through print publications, exhibitions, and presentations.

As I start my journey as a tenure-track librarian, I also look forward to pursuing my research interests, including the exploration of:

  1. Methods for improving subject headings and other descriptive metadata in a way that enhances the user discovery experience while also describing and categorizing cultural knowledge in a way that closely aligns with the world views and expectations of the communities creating—or that are represented by—academic works and special collections.
  2. More efficient workflows for describing distinctive collections.
  3. More flexible and customizable hiring practices, workplace environments, project workflows, and training and professional development opportunities to ensure that all employees can succeed and reach their full potential.
  4. The integration of yogic techniques—such as asanas, breathing techniques, self-inquiry, and non-attachment—as management strategies that foster mindful leadership and support employee wellness.
